Donovan G. Dobbe
Of Arlington Heights
Donovan G. Dobbe was born April 19, 1929 in Minneapolis, MN to Joseph and Emma (nee Christenson) Dobbe. He died March 17, 2017 at JourneyCare Hospice Center in Barrington.
A true gentleman, Donovan was raised in Slater, Iowa. After high school graduation he was accepted at University of Iowa, Iowa City and became a member of the men’s basketball team. An excellent student, he met the love of his life, Nora Belle Figg who was also a student at University of Iowa.
The couple married in 1949 and Don was drafted in the Army to serve in Germany during the Korean War. After the war, Don returned to Iowa City and worked for Moore Business Forms while he and Nora raised their son, Craig.
Don was active in the community through Boy Scouts and church. He served as assistant Scout Master of Troop 202 in Iowa City Iowa. As a member of First Christian Church, he sang in the choir and was an elder.
A job transfer brought the family to Arlington Heights, Illinois in 1969. Don joined Toast Masters and became an active member of The Christian Church of Arlington Heights-Disciples of Christ, serving as an Elder for many years. He and Nora enjoyed square-dancing, hiking, biking and travel to many destinations.
Don was known by all as a true gentleman who loved his family very much. He treated everyone with respect and consideration. His generosity was often anonymous and many benefited from his kindness.
Donovan is survived by his son Craig A. Dobbe; his grandchildren Carolyn A. and Craig A.,Jr. Dobbe and by many nieces and nephews.
Donovan is preceded in death by his wife Nora B. (nee Figg) Dobbe and by his parents.
Visitation Wednesday, March 22, 2017 from 5 PM until 9 PM at the Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, (4 blocks south of Palatine Road) Arlington Heights. Funeral service 11 AM, Thursday, March 23, 2017 at The Christian Church of Arlington Heights, 333 W. Thomas Street., Arlington Heights. Interment will be private.
